The photograph

The flower behind every page is honesty, Lunaria annua — the money plant, named for seed pods that dry into round silver discs like coins.

Changes: cropped to a wide frame, softened slightly and toned — cropped to 16:10 by tools/crop.mjs (Chrome's canvas — this machine has no image library), then blurred 2 px, saturation 1.05 and brightness 0.97 by tools/make-ground.mjs. The original file is not served.

Honesty is called the money plant because its seed pods dry into round silver discs like coins — a flower that is also a coin is Meed's whole idea, and it is the flower struck into the mark. Choosing this photograph was a DECISION, taken by looking at 61 Creative Commons photographs of the plant. A close-up of the flower beside its coin-shaped pods told the story better and was rejected for the ground: its leaves are sharp and busy behind glass. This frame was chosen because its background is already soft, so the page needs little blur and keeps its colour. One thing counts against it and is written down here: in Dutch and Polish the plant is named after the silver paid to Judas. The English name, honesty, is the one used.
